making place
Memories are the fleeting specters of our mind. Are they real, however intangible, or a figment of our imagination, fabricated and organized to help us make meaning of the world? This body of work explores the question of embodied memory and its connection to place. Objects made in response to a landscape, a site... they are worn on the body, the way we wear our memories, constructing an identity made up of stories about where we are from and where we have been. Badges that honor experience yet barely scratching the surface of what lies beneath. We collect and archive material objects | a photograph, a piece of jewelry | to remind us of a moment that has passed, however, such things can only serve, at best, as signs or signifiers of a much larger, intangible truth.
